Data Deletion Request – Surfmate App

This page explains how users of the Surfmate mobile app can request deletion of personal data we process in connection with the App. For general privacy information, see our Privacy Policy (App).

What data may be processed

Depending on how you use Surfmate, we may process data including:

  • Account and profile data (e.g. email address, sign-in via email/password, Google Sign-In, or Sign in with Apple, optional phone number, bio, fun facts, optional Instagram username or link, surf-place information on your profile, profile photos, and the recent public sessions shown on your profile to others)
  • Discovery data (e.g. optional phone number stored on your account for contact matching — we do not store your device address book; see the App Privacy Policy, section 3.9)
  • Content you save in the App (e.g. sessions, surf spots including private spots, notes, photos, short videos for conditions—including those shared via Spotcheck and shown to other users for 24 hours—and related entries)
  • Device identifiers used for push notifications (e.g. push tokens linked to your account when you enable notifications)
  • Basic technical data needed to run the App and deliver content (as described in our App Privacy Policy)

How to request deletion

To help us find and delete the right data, include the email address registered on your Surfmate account. If your request relates only to push notifications, say so clearly and include any details we can use to identify your device or account.

What happens after your request

After we receive your request, we will, where applicable:

  • Delete or anonymise your account and associated App content stored in our systems, subject to legal retention obligations
  • Remove your push token / device identifier from our systems where possible
  • Stop further push notifications for the affected token

Spotcheck visibility and storage follow the App Privacy Policy: videos shared via Spotcheck are visible to other users for 24 hours, while underlying files remain stored until you delete them or your account is deleted (subject to legal retention duties).

Requests are typically processed within 7 to 30 days. We may contact you if we need additional information to verify your identity or locate your data.

Important note

Push tokens are technical identifiers. If you do not provide the email address for your Surfmate account (or other information we reasonably need), we may not be able to identify the correct token or dataset. Whenever possible, use the same email address you use to sign in to the App.

If the App offers in-product account deletion, you can also use that flow where available; you may still contact us using the address above if you need help or a confirmation.
